Jodi Picoult’s latest, By Any Other Name, lands us in England, 1581, and uncovers secrets of The Bard’s work. Jackie, a fictionalized account of the life of one of America’s most prolific First Ladies, takes listeners from France to the White House and beyond. Bright I Burn is an electric story of the first woman to be condemned as a witch in 13th century Ireland, where a woman with power is a woman to be feared. And then there’s Nicked, the based-on-a-true-story romp through Italy in 1087, in which a monk sets out to steal the corpse of a long-dead saint and finds wonder at the world that awaits (and a meet-cute).
