The aesthetic of the summer has officially been decreed: it’s no longer tomato girl summer, nor spritz girl summer. It’s jam girl summer.
Despite what you might think, jam girl summer doesn’t just mean that you know your way around a Mason jar. It’s about embracing the slowness and sweetness summer has to offer: freshly picked fruit, linen dresses, open windows and curtains billowing in the breeze, a soft blanket in the grass, the warmth of the morning sun. There’s no place for the rise-and-grind here, unless of course you’re hand-grinding your own coffee beans.
All that said, we do think if you’re going to embrace being a jam girl, you should go all-in and actually know how to make jam. Enter: Jam Bake by Camilla Wynne, a one-of-a-kind preserving and baking book packed full of delicious jams and desserts, and now your sous chef for all things picnic.
We’re sharing Camilla’s recipe for Cherry Negroni Jam, a preserve with a very loyal following which was originally made as a collaboration between Preservation Society and a small batch distillery. Jam meets apertivo? Magnifico.
Hit the farmer’s market in your headphones and jam out to our audiobook picks while you shop for sour cherries: they’re all as cozy and nostalgic as jam on toast.
